Jesus, the Light of the World

John 8:12

Jesus spoke… saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.”

Real or imagined, the walls seem to be closing in on us.  The idea of winter’s “cabin fever” is looking pretty good right now.  Here we are, stuck in our homes (for the most part) trying to maintain a semblance of normalcy in the midst of truly unique times.  Doing our best to maintain an appropriate ‘social distance’ while at the same time believing and trusting God in our walk of faith.

We can choose to be upset politically, emotionally, even spiritually… but the truth is we have a much better choice available to us.

Darkness has been in the world since the time of Adam and Eve.  Sin has been in the hearts and minds of mankind for thousands of years.  It didn’t just start a few weeks ago, and it didn’t just start in the Wuhan district of China.  Regardless of whatever the latest attack from the powers of darkness happens to be, God has never left us nor forsaken us.  He has been for us and with us from the very beginning.

From the moment of creation when God said, “Let there be light”, darkness has taken a back seat to the Lord’s awesome power.

We are not alone.  Not now, not tomorrow, not ever.  Though darkness may try to sneak up on us… even in the form of a virus, there is no darkness that can hold back the Light that is Christ.  He is the author of our faith, and He is the One who will make sure the darkness cannot hurt us.

In the Light that is Christ, we see the creative power of the Father.   We see the love of the Father.   We see the mercy, kindness and protection of the Father.

Col 1:15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.

John 14:9 He who has seen Me has seen the Father;

John 12:45 And he who sees Me sees Him who sent Me.

In Christ, we see the Light that shines in the darkness.  True, our own personal darkness may seem heavy and yes, dark.  But if the Light is God’s Light, there is no darkness that can stand against it.  No lie that can claim to be true.  No sickness that will prevail against the Blood of Jesus.  No heaviness, weight of sin, fear, doubt, unbelief, disappointment, bitterness or whatever else the devil tries to throw at us can stand in the Light that is Christ.

He is all powerful, He is all knowing, and He is all ours.

As we struggle to “stay at home” and try to make sense of the encroaching darkness, we can choose to be upset politically, emotionally, even spiritually… but the truth is we have a much better choice available to us.

We can choose to walk in the Light as He is in the Light.  We can choose to reject fear and instead have a spirit of power, love and a sound mind.

We can choose joy over sorrow, hope over despair.  We can choose the Light.

John 8:12

Jesus spoke… saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.”
